1)
why
did you start www.ginkworld.net?
about
three years ago there were few places on the net that
allowed any postmodern community of faith find a common
voice. I felt it was important for a ministry to
develop that centered on the postmodern believers, and
those seeking to minister in this dynamic, changing
times - it's exciting. www.ginkworld.net started with
the heart to build community, and to help others build
community.
2)
what
is the significance behind the name?
"gink"
is a slang term from the turn of the last century
meaning "abnormal" - I thought it fit who we
were and what we wanted to do.
3)
why
is the postmodern movement so important to you?
it's
not the movement that is important - it's the desire to
share Christ with this generation. I believe,
being a postmodern person and thinker, that many of us
desire something a little deeper, a little wider, then
the contemporary church has to offer. keep in
mind, the contemporary church is over 30 years old -
that makes it a "traditional church" for many
of us!!
4)
who
would you say influenced you the most in your theology?
if
I had to pick one person I would have to say it was
Katherine Keller from Drew. I remember her once
saying, "if a tree blows in the forest only trees
that will fall are those that are dead, or have shallow
roots." it was one of those little sayings
that effect your theology - she taught me, even if I did
not agree with her my faith in God could not be rattled
- no matter the wind.
5)
what
do you see as the future make-up of the church?
what
is the most important ingredient to planting a
postmodern community of faith?
6)
what
three movies have effected your outlook on life and the
church?
mike
thought of this question, right? after all, he
knows I am a classic Monty Python nut -
-
the
life of brian
-
a great move to show how silly we tend to get as
followers of Christ.
-
monty
python and the search for the holy grail
- there are some
great sermon illustrations in this film.
-
Jesus,
the mini-series
-
I know many people are uptight with some of the
theology and some of the events - but I really like
it. I like that it showed Jesus as human -
laughing and having a good time with his friends.
it did not make Jesus to be some up-tight religious
leaders.
7)
how would you define the "postmodern movement?"
well,
first i would have to say i do not see it as
"generational" as so many other pastors do. i
see it as a state of mind and cultural understanding that
transends age and eneters a place in our hearts that totally
changes the way we think and the way we see things.
someone once said that "postmodern is simply the other side
of the coin" - an i disagree. if we want to use the
concept of "a coin" then we can say that "modern
is the coin - postmodern is the electronic credit that exsists
on cyberspace"
any
closing thoughts?
I
am excited about what God is doing with people today -
people of all ages, and of all colors and of all social
outlooks. God is moving in His people, and moving
in a way that is telling them they need to look at
things with a different eye - an eye towards Him and all
He has done for us - God is awesome and moving
powerfully in the lives of many.
be
open, and be in Christ.
