monkey and the mutant g force - the beginning of the beginning.
first - i keep hearing "spiritual discernment" when we
speak of the voice in scripture - is that just a "buzz
word" for my point is better then yours? or, my voice is
more valid then yours? after all, i have the true spiritual
discernment, so you could not.
if the spirit speaks to me and says one thing, and to someone
else and says something different, are we both in discernment?
and if not, who is right? maybe the one who speaks the loudest,
or the one with the biggest stick the right one? which brings me
to another point i have been wondering -
second, how are we defining "christianity?" if i claim
to be a christian, must i believe only what you believe? if i do
not believe exactly as you do, does that make me a
"non-christian?" if i do not agree with the aposles
creed 100%, am i outside "true christianity?" when we
speak of hearing other voices, are we open enough to speak with
those who believe with all their hearts thay are christian, even
though others think they are not?
i have been concerned with this over the past, because we seem
to toss around this "christianity" as if we - our
understanding - got it right, and those "others" who
claim to be christian did not. i am 100% behind hearing other
voices - even if those voices disagree with me 100%, and i am
not ready to say that they are wrong, simply because i believe
different. i want to hear things
that challenge my faith; i want to be in dialog with people i
disagree with; i live for the challenge of hearing others
voices. in hearing those voices, i ask myself regularly - what
is christianity? here are something to chew on -
can a person claim to be a christian if they do not believe 100%
in the resurrection? the miracles? the divinity? the virgin
birth?
can one claim to be a christian if they believe that jesus was
born to a unwed teenage mother?
can a person call themselves a christian is they believe joseph
lived and was actively involved in the live of jesus?
who says what it takes to be a christian? if we say
"scripture," whose view of scripture? if we say
"traditional" - whose tradition?
if i believe baptism is an outward sign of an inward faith, and
not required for salvation would a person who believes it is
required - mandatory (as the disciples of christ do) and that
requiring it is a sign of a true christian - who is right?
just some things i have been wondering about
