the
politic of war:
i
was talking with a pastor friend the other day who
supports the war effort and the coming war on iraq.
in our conversation he tried hard to get me to say
war was all right, or at least this war was all
right. i tried to explain to him that i did
not care about the politics of the war - or the patriotic
nature of the war - i only cared about the
christian response to war - and it should be that
no war is allowed.
i
am tired of all the politics surrounding this war
- all, every single politician - everyone without
a single exception - is pulling politics and
drawing party lines. for me, as an evolving
punk monkey, i am not impressed with usamerican
politics - and as an "exlab rat turned u.s.
senator" let me say that all they want is
what serves them, and no one else. i know
that some will say, "hey, punk monkey that's
a bit harsh lumping all politician in one bad
pool." well, maybe it is, but i have
never seen a single politician strive for anything
except a sound bite, a photo-op, or a fat bill for
a road named after themselves. now we might
be going to war so grown human males - and females
- can show how much testosterone they have flowing
in their veins.
every
time i speak with evangelical minister who see war
as a "requirement of the faith" i find
it hard to look past them without seeing their
desire to please the politics of the land.
as they shout that iraq is in "material
breach" of a un sanction, i am reminded of
all the "pat robertson's" of this world
who shouted that the un was a "anti-biblical"
creation and that the usamerica should not be part
of it. as they cry to rid the world of
nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction,
i am reminded of the cries to increase the weapon spending
in usamerica and to develop "starwar"
style tech. the cry for war is drowning out
the weeping for peace.
as
we get ready, i for one will never support a war,
to kill innocent humans, let us keep in mind those
who have done nothing to us - nothing - that
pastor friend i mentioned in the beginning of this
story told me that he felt that there were no
"innocent" people - that they all
supported the iraq government and at best, if not
fully supported them, they allowed it to happen -
kind of like people in usamerican being harmed
because of usamerican policy - go figure.
