Oisín,
in the Land of the Young
(english)
A
long, long time ago, Oisín (Asin) and the Fianna
(Fionn's (Fin) companions) were out hunting.
They saw a beautiful girl riding a white horse.
When she approached Oisín asked, "What
is your name?" To which the beautiful
young girl replied, "My name is Niamh (Niv)."
"And my father is the Ri (King) of the Land
of the Young." Looking into Oisin's
eyes she fell in love with Oisín.
"Come with me to the Land of the Young",
said Niamh. Oisín climbed on her horse and
together they rode off to the Land of the Young.
As
they crossed
the sea to the Land of the Young. When they
arrived, Oisín knew he would be very happy in the
Land of the Young. He was right; he had a
very pleasant time. But time passed, and
before he knoew it 300 years passed by.
Nobody ever got old or sick or died in the Land of
the Young. But Oisín got lonely. One
day he approached Niamh and said, "I want to
go back to Ireland to see Fionn and the Fianna
again." "Alright", said
Niamh. "Ypu will need to bring the
white horse with you. But remember, and this
is important, do not set foot on land in Ireland!"
Oisín
road the white horse cross the sea back to
Ireland. But the country had changed.
Fionn and the Fianna were dead. Oisín was
very sad. "I'll go back to the Land of
the Young," he thought to himself.
As
he rode off, he saw a group of men working in the
field. There was a rock blocking the road,
so he bent down and moved the rock. As he
did, he fell to the ground. The horse ran
back to the Land of The Young without him.
Within no time at all Oisin's years caught up with
him (he was over 300 years old at the time).
The men took him to meet St. Patrick. Oisín
told him about Fionn and the Fianna, and about
Niamh and the Land of the Young. Then he
died.
